Health facilities in Majuro and Ebeye are adequate for routine medical problems. There are few or no health facilities available elsewhere in the Marshall Islands. Most outer islands have medical dispensaries. Serious medical problems may require medical evacuation to the United States.
Prescription and over the counter medicine may not be available. Doctors and hospitals generally expect immediate cash payment for health services. However, the local cost for service is quite minimal.
You can find good information on vaccinations and other health precautions on the CDC website. For information about outbreaks of infectious diseases abroad, consult the World Health Organization (WHO) website. The WHO website also contains additional health information for travelers, including detailed country-specific health information.
Tuberculosis is an increasingly serious health concern in the Marshall Islands. For further information, please consult the CDC's information on TB. The incidence of tuberculosis (TB) is high, and there are cases of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDRTB) currently under quarantine or receiving treatment.
